How to replace the ignition Key in an XC90 Saab

It could be time to replace your SAAB key fob if you are experiencing issues turning the barrel of your lock. Fortunately, the process is rather simple and doesn't need you to visit an agent. Instead, you can do it yourself at home by using only a few tools.

First, you'll need prepare the new key. Before you start, be sure that the anti-theft device is disabled by placing blocks on the rear wheels and releasing the handbrake. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories but it will not start the engine. Repeat this five times, then turn off the key on the "on" position.

Then you'll need to buy an additional case for your key fob. You can get these at any auto parts store and they're usually quite affordable. Based on the model, you can even purchase them without electronics.

To open up the case, put a flathead screwdriver inside the slot in the middle, and gently work it. Once you split the case, you'll be able to access all the internal electronics. To remove the electronics use a small screwdriver, and try to pry them out in a gentle manner.
